Shelley Bhattacharya attended Chula Vista High School from 1988-1991, and was a member of Chula Vista High School’s first AP Biology Class.
Dr. Shelley Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor in Geriatric Medicine at the Landon Center on Aging and in Family Medicine with the University of Kansas Medical Center. She completed her undergraduate training at the University of California, San Diego, with a major in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Her residency was done in Family Medicine at Shadyside Hospital with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. She then completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine, also at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Bhattacharya was an Albert Schweitzer Fellow in 2004-2005. She also completed a Masters in Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research emphasis for both programs was focused on improving patient and provider compliance in outpatient geriatric evaluation programs at the Veteran’s Administration hospital. She has presented abstracts at national meetings regarding systematic improvement of geriatric evaluation programs. Her research interests include public health, health systems improvement and elder driving safety.
